The world of “Christianity” can be very confusing because of so many denominations and movements, and their perspective doctrines.  In this class we will cover an overview of the basic beliefs and worldview of Pentecostalism, Calvinism, Catholicism, Protestantism, Messianic and Judaic Christianity, New Age Movements, postmodernism, liberal theology, fundamentalism, prosperity theology, the megachurch movement, and several influential doctrinal systems developed in America.  A component of this class is the study of doctrines related to the Holy Spirit.  The objective is to help us develop our own healthy view of doctrine (for our own personal convictions), to be prepared to answer and help others to come to Christ, and to have a deeper understanding of the Holy Spirit.

We will be going over the following books:

  1. Douglas Jacoby and Joey Harris, Informed: Untangling Destructive Interpretations of Scripture (Spring, Texas: Illumination Publishing, 2019).
  2. Douglas Jacoby, The Spirit (Spring, TX: Illumination Publishing, 1998, 2005, 2010, 2015).
  3. David W. Berçot, Will the Real Heretics Please Stand Up: A New Look at Today’s Evangelical Church in the Light of Early Christianity (Scroll Publishing).
